What You Can Learn About The Visitors To Your Blog

Below is a small screen shot of my actual stats displaying two of my most recent visitors. As you can see one visitor is new to my blog while the other is a returning guess. With the use of Web-stat I know the date and time each visit occurred.

In the next field of stats I am informed of the entry page of each visit, whether the visitor came straight to my blog page or if came to one of my posts instead.

Also I can see at first glance that the latest visitor had only visited 1 page when this screen shot was taken while the previous visitor visited 4 pages.

The next field “Visitor Location & IP” can be very useful. Each visitor’s Country, City, and State or Region is detected including their zip code. Also their IP address and internet provider is recorded.

With these facts Web-stat can be enabled to use their Geo-Targeting feature. This option can be setup to allow different versions of your pages to be displayed according to the viewer’s location. This feature can also be used to block traffic from locations which are sending you spam.

The remaining fields of this stat view advises you of the visitor’s operating system, the browser they are using and their color settings.

Then By hovering your mouse over the Page Visits Field a popup is displayed which lists the pages which were visited. If this visitor had clicked on one of the links on my blog I could also see  his path away from my site.

By clicking the Page Visits Field I am able to view how much time my visitor spent on each page of his visit.

All of the Stat views above are streaming live view stats and there are many more views which are recorded for your viewing. Cumulative reports such as:

Do You Know Your Next Door Neighbor?

In the world of Internet hosting the terms Shared Hosting, Virtual Private Hosting or Virtual Dedicated Hosting, and Dedicated Hosting get used to describe the hosting plan you are using to run your website.

Chances are, if you’re paying for your account in the free to $20.00 range, your site is being run on a shared hosting account. What this means is that you have neighbors. For the most part this isn’t a bad thing, but you really should know who your neighbors are.
