Google’s Keyword Tool provides you with a very good method of researching keywords for your PPC advertising. By using this tool you are supplied a list of related words detailing the amount of searches each word receives per month as well as its competition.
Yet how do you find words with high search rates and low competition? For the most part you can be certain that if a keyword for your product comes to mind easily for you, the competition for that keyword will be high.
Finding low cost keywords with high search volumes requires a good deal of research. A good starting point for that research is synonyms. Almost every word has another word which means the same thing. By using a thesaurus such as the ones found in most word processing programs you will be able to plug many unthought-of words into Google’s Keyword Tool.
Another technique for finding new keywords is to use regional expressions, e.g. pop, or soft drink instead of soda… Acronyms may also be a very good source for low cost keywords.
In one of my earlier blogs “Are PPC Advertising Mistakes Costing You?” I began by pointing out a few of the mistakes newbie PPC advertisers make. A huge mistake that a vast amount of marketers make is to use words describing the product they are trying to sell.
When someone searches the web they are looking for s solution to a problem. Often typing search phrases, without knowing the correct terminology. Try asking yourself questions about solutions to the problems your product addresses. Visit auction sites such as eBay to read advertisement listings, You may find there is a world of keywords you have never thought of/
Still another idea is to add supplemental words to your existing terms to form low cost keywords. IBP’s E-book “Successful Advertising with Google Adwords” offers an extensive list of supplemental words as well as many more tricks which can help you find cost effective terms for your PPC advertising.
